Welcome to Comedians in Demand

In 1993, I came out of the closet as a lesbian. Yes, you’re right. I do look young. I was in the closet for exactly 8 days. My mother was shocked an infant could be so self-aware.

Back then, an openly LGBTQ+ person being portrayed positively in mainstream Media was so rare that we gathered in groups and had parties when it happened. In fairness, we just had a lot of parties. You missed a good time.

But as a Gaybee, I was performing with wildly beautiful and talented drag queens who should have been getting paid for effort. We were all working for tips. Later, I was watching queer comedians, who were the funniest on every line-up, being preempted by Seinfeld, or some equally beige sitcom. It ignited a fire in my belly to uplift talented Queer voices and create a LGBTQ+ presence in the media.

You are probably stunned that an infant could work in a drag bar, but it was the 90’s. No one carded.

When I began stand-up comedy, I trained in Improv with Tom Booker in Austin, and I had no idea where the roads of comedy, dancing, and music would take me.

Over the years, I have had the pleasure of performing with my childhood heroes and newly uncovered gems, discovering extremely talented people that I will cherish forever, feeling supported by them, and watching their careers blossom.

Creating the Portland Queer Comedy Festival and watching the pioneers in Gay comedy I watched growing up make Portland laugh; Jason Stuart performing to a packed house at Crush bar, or Scott Thompson of Kids in the Hall beautifully performing the first sketch he did with Kids in the Hall. An encore after two sold out shows, to an audience of about 70 lucky stragglers at Curious Comedy. Or, this year, going to NYC and witnessing Portland Queer Comedy Festival alum Sandra Valls perform for the first time on Broadway in Real Women Have Curves!

Performing alongside comedians like Robby Hoffman, Jason Stuart, Sanda Valls, Joel Kim Booster, Nico Santos, Guy Branum, Cameron Esposito, etc. has all been beyond my wildest imagination. I want to expand upon those experiences, increase the reach of my roster, and create new fun memories! I am beyond thrilled to embark on this journey with Logan, Todd, Dollie, Nicha, and the rest of The Gaybors Group team! What we are creating is truly special, and I can’t wait to introduce you to my chosen Gaybors and get these folks on the road! (or Remote! We’re flexible!)
